Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full" (John 16:23,24). -JOHN 16:23-33 It is a privilege for one to receive a signed blank cheque from an account owner, such that one is asked to write any amount one wishes on it and then go ahead to cash it at a designated bank. Obviously, such a recipient will write an amount that is worthy. The name of our Lord Jesus Christ is like a signed blank cheque with which we can receive anything we need from God the Father. Asking the Father shows a sense of spiritual dependence and a desire for spiritual blessings with conviction that they will be received from God.
